After having held a conversation with several Male models, I have come to notice a fact that is severely holding back the future of Male models in Pakistan. There happens to be a severe Homo Phobia amongst the Male models of Pakistan. Not just in the Pakistani society but even in open minded and progressive societies of the west, male models are considered to be feminine and often times considered gay. The Pakistani Society where men are the perfect example of a Alpha Male, Male models feel the need to excessively prove that they are not gay. In any Fashion industry, you come across several Gay men. From designers to makeup artists to photographers, this field is filled with gay men, but that does not mean that every man in this field is gay. The Fashion industry is perhaps one of the most demanding industries and if one wants to survive in it, they have to deal with the things that come along with it. We often ask ourselves, why is the life of a male model so short in Pakistan? Well the answer is a number of reasons. One big reason is that most male models choose modeling as a route to Television and acting. Secondly, most male models choose modeling only as a source of quick income to pay for college and university tuition. The field is just not being taken seriously by the men themselves. The Men in this field themselves are giving in to the stereotypes that have been created by society. The most common comment is "Everyone is gay in the industry and I cannot work with them because I am not gay". That is perhaps one of the most unprofessional comments anyone can ever give. (Actual comment given by a Male model). We might as well start saying that we cannot work in the European Fashion industry because they are Christians. Me might as well stop giving non Muslims work. Why not go to that length as well? We need to cast off these stereotypes and phobias and work like real professionals. The Fashion industry in Pakistan cannot be harder for a man to bear than a woman, if women are out there acting professionally and getting around the shady parts of the industry then so can men. It is not just pakistan where young men and women are desperate to become models and someone takes advantage of that fact, this kind of filth exists in all the fashion capitals of the world. So get on with it. People have been around this filth and have been successful. If someone is gay, that is their own personal business, where work is considered you have to be professional and unless Pakistani Male models start being professional and start taking their field seriously, they will not have a future in Pakistan.
